YOU ARE A COMMISSIONED AGENT.
YOU WERE SENT — NOT BORN.
That is not merely a slogan. It is a worldview. It changes the question from “What do I want to do with my life?” to “Why was I sent here?”
1. YOU ARE A COMMISSIONED AGENT
Notice the order. You are not first told what you must do. You are told who you are-an agent. An agent is someone who represents the interests, authority, and intentions of another.
Jesus said: “As the Father has sent me, even so I am sending you” — John 20:21. That sentence destroys passive Christianity. You are not merely saved from something. You are sent into something. You are not merely a believer waiting for heaven. You are a representative of Heaven operating in the earth.
Paul takes it even further: “We are ambassadors for Christ.” — 2 Corinthians 5:20. An ambassador does not invent the message. He carries the message of the kingdom that sent him. An ambassador does not belong psychologically to the territory where he operates. His deepest allegiance is elsewhere. And that is why the Agent language is so powerful.
You may be living in London, Lagos, New York or Nairobi—but earth is not the source of your assignment. Your environment is not your origin. Your postcode is not your identity. Your occupation is not your ultimate assignment. Your circumstances are not your commission.
2. YOU WERE SENT — NOT BORN
Now the second statement goes deeper because there is a difference between birth and arrival. Birth describes the mechanism by which you entered the world. Sent describes the reason you entered it. That distinction is enormous. A person can know when they were born and still have no idea why they arrived.
Your birth certificate tells you your date of arrival but it does not tell you your divine assignment. Your parents participated in your biological entrance into the world but Scripture repeatedly presents God as the One who knows, forms, sanctifies, appoints and sends.
3. SENT PEOPLE THINK DIFFERENTLY
If you believe you are merely here, you ask: What can I get?
If you believe you were sent, you ask: What am I carrying?
If you believe you merely exist, you ask: What do I want to become?
If you believe you were commissioned, you ask: What have I been commissioned to accomplish?
If you believe life is yours, you spend it. If you believe life was entrusted to you, You steward it.
That is the difference. A sent person cannot casually waste time because assignment puts a price on minutes. Jesus understood this. He said: “I must work the works of him who sent me, while it is day.”— John 9:4. Did you hear the language? The One who sent me. Jesus did not interpret His earthly life independently of His Sender. Neither should the believer.
4. THE AGENT DOES NOT DEFINE THE MISSION
Here is another implication. An agent does not wake up and say: “Today I will decide what my government stands for.” No. He represents something bigger than himself. That is why Jesus said: “My food is to do the will of him who sent me and to finish his work.”— John 4:34
Sent people live under instruction. They don't merely ask: “What do I feel like doing?” They ask: “What has Heaven assigned me to do?” That is a completely different way of living.
5. AND HERE IS THE GREAT TENSION
If you were sent, then your life is not ultimately your property. Your gifts are not merely your gifts. Your intelligence is not merely for your advancement. Your influence is not merely for your reputation. Your money is not merely for your comfort. Your voice is not merely for your platform. Your years are not merely yours to spend. Everything becomes equipment for the assignment.
That changes everything. Your career becomes a possible mission field. Your business becomes a possible kingdom instrument. Your home becomes an assignment. Your relationships become stewardship. Your platform becomes responsibility. Your suffering may become preparation. Your wilderness may become training. Even your delays may be developing something the assignment will eventually require. Suddenly, life stops looking like a random collection of events. It starts looking like training for deployment.
6. BUT HERE IS THE QUESTION
If you were sent...Who sent you?
And if God sent you...Why did He send you?
And if He sent you for a purpose...What happens if you spend your entire life doing everything except that purpose?
That is where the slogan stops being inspirational. It becomes a summons.Because the greatest tragedy may not be dying too early.
It may be living long enough to complete everything except the reason you were sent.
7. YOU ARE NOT THE AUTHOR OF YOUR ASSIGNMENT
This is where the Agent mentality must remain submitted to Scripture. We don't use “Agent” language to make ourselves sound important. Quite the opposite.
An agent is important because of the Sender—not because of himself. The authority of the messenger comes from the One who commissioned him. The glory belongs to the Sender. The message belongs to the Sender. The mission belongs to the Sender.
The Agent simply says: “Here am I. Send me.” Isaiah 6:8. That is the posture. Not: “Look at me” but “Look at the One who sent me.”
8. THE FINAL REALITY
The deepest implication of: YOU ARE A COMMISSIONED AGENT. YOU WERE SENT — NOT BORN is not that you should become more ambitious. It is that you should become more conscious of your Sender because once you discover who sent you, you begin asking: What did He send me to do?
Once you discover what He sent you to do, you begin asking: How much time do I have?
Once you understand how much time you have, you begin asking: What must I stop wasting?
And once you understand that your earthly life is temporary...you begin looking beyond the earth that received you...toward the eternity from which your assignment ultimately makes sense.
9. THE AGENT'S DECLARATION
I did not arrive here accidentally.
I am not merely a product of biology.
I am not merely the sum of my circumstances.
I am not here merely to survive, consume, accumulate and die.
I was sent.
I have a Sender.
I have an assignment.
I have a limited window of time.
I have resources entrusted to me.
And one day, I will stand before the One who sent me.
Therefore, I will not merely ask:
“Did I live?”
I will ask:
“Did I fulfil what I was sent to do?”
Because the ultimate question is not whether you existed.
The question is whether you executed the assignment for which you entered time.
